Some top military officers have been accused of protecting illicit drug peddlers who allegedly operate openly within the Apapa–Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State. In response to the grave allegations, the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has announced that it has opened an investigation into the matter.

A South African political party, ActionSA, has confirmed that a Nigerian suspect was shot during an anti-drug operation carried out in Ekurhuleni amid what the party described as violent resistance from drug syndicates. The confirmation was contained in a press statement issued on Monday by ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate, Councillor Xolani Khumalo.
